Throughout my life, I’ve maintained a passion for exploration and have loved to challenge myself both at work and in my free time.

Before attending the University of Southampton I spent four months in Svalbard undertaking winter travel and scientific research as part of the BSES Arctic Year Expedition; this cemented my enthusiasm for adventure and responsibility to the environment.

Making use of my winter skills whilst at University, I was a member of the Officer Training Corps biathlon ski team, competing at various events between 2002 and 2006.  The army also enabled me to pursue my passion for sailing and climbing, culminating in an expedition to summit Mount Kenya, as well as regularly racing at Cowes and around the Balitc.

During the summer break of 2002, I sailed to Russia, taking the trans-Siberian railway through Mongolia and onto China.

On graduation I joined the Royal Signals in sailing across the Atlantic, before embarking on two months of travelling around South America. Having completed my travels, I joined a six person reconnaissance expedition to the Falklands, South Georgia and Antarctica, advising on the ski mountaineering and scientific opportunities that this region presented.

Away from work I regularly travel to Norway and ski-mountaineer with my brother.  Building on my passion and experience, in 2014 I attempted a crossing of the Greenland Icecap with my friend Mike.  Although unsuccessful, the lessons that I learned enabled me to make a film of my experiences which I presented at the Royal Geographical Society.  This led to me assisting on the panel for polar exploration at the RGS Explore event which is the Society’s annual expedition and field research seminar.

I continue to develop my winter skills with regular trips to Northern Norway and further afield.

I remain a keen sailor, cyclist and runner; thriving on exposure to the elements, leadership and teamwork.

I still want to complete my crossing of the Greenland Icecap.
